I always love to read research that announces the health benefits of fruits and vegetables. It’s already clear that they are great for our health, but it is always interesting to learn why these foods are good for diabetic diet and how they affect our blood sugar levels.

Cherries are my favourite fruit. Recently I read an article that said chemicals found in cherries, called anthocyanins, are reported to boost insulin productivity. These chemicals also serve as antioxidants, which have been linked to a variety of health benefits such as reducing heart disease, hypertension, and the risk of a stroke.

Another study showed that considerable amount of melatonin are found in cherries. Melatonin is thought to slow the aging process, and it is being studied as a treatment for cancer, depression, and other diseases.

For people with Pre-Diabetes, the benefits from cherries are even more significant. Other foods and drinks also include anthocyanins; these include blueberries, strawberries, wine, and cider.
